Dove Advanced Care

When it comes to a woman's beauty routine, not all is as straight forward as it seems. I would just love to take a baby wipe to the face, splash some water, and call it a night but let's be real...there's a whole lotta maintenance involved, especially when we're dealing with skincare.
And in order to figure out the right steps and products for ourselves, there's never enough knowledge to be learned. That’s why I was so excited to partner with Dove to have a lil' Q&A with Dove Dermatologist Dr. Alicia Barba regarding certain skincare questions of mine.

One of the first questions that came to mind was which areas of the skin are first to age. For the simple reason, prevention is the best defense! So knowing which areas to give extra TLC ahead of time helps us all out in the long run.

Which areas of the skin are most prone to early signs of aging?
I think the majority of women first notice the signs of aging around the crow’s feet and laugh lines. Eventually the neck, chest and hands will catch up.

My next couple of questions were about facial care. We know the drill by now...exfoliate, tone, and moisturize. But should we be exfoliating daily? And how do we tackle combination skin?

How often should you exfoliate your skin?
It depends on your skin’s tolerance to scrubbing. Exfoliating scrubs tend to be overused, especially in acne patients who get dry skin from acne treatments or women using retinoids for anti-aging. Use an exfoliating product once or twice per week maximum and ALWAYS moisturize afterwards! Remember, exfoliating not only removes dead skin cells but also your own natural moisturizer too, which we want to preserve the best we can. Always follow with a nickel sized amount of moisturizer after exfoliating your face so that moisture is replaced. Exfoliation should never hurt or leave you feeling raw or sensitive. If your moisturizer stings after exfoliating, you have scrubbed way too hard.

What type of moisturizer is best for combination skin?
Choose a moisturizer right for your skin type and body part. Facial moisturizers are usually more expensive so you may not want to use them up quickly by applying to your body. Body moisturizers are usually heavier and may be too much hydration for the face.

For combination skin, look for ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides that are light-weight and non-comedogenic.

My last two questions aren't exactly the most thought of when it comes to skincare, but still equally as important nonetheless. Let's talk underarms! Nearly 2 in 3 women experience some kind of underarm issue, besides the common wetness and odor, so it's beneficial to know what products to look for, what they're made of, and how they work.

How do antiperspirants work?
The way antiperspirants generally work is that the active ingredient temporarily blocks the release of sweat from the sweat ducts. The salts dissolve into the skin and forms a protective layer over the mouth of the sweat ducts, which reduces perspiration in the underarm.

What should women look for in an antiperspirant?
A good antiperspirant is an essential part to every woman’s beauty routine. When selecting an antiperspirant, be sure to look for one that goes beyond odor and wetness protection. Not only does Dove Advanced Care offer 48 hour protection, it provides added skincare benefits with its NutriumMoistureformula for softer, smoother underarms.

Dove is a staple for many, many of us when it comes to keeping up with a beauty regimen, not to mention, their antiperspirants/deodorants do not disappoint (tried and tested!). If you're looking for an upgrade in that department, like Dr. Barba said, DoveAdvanced Care Antiperspirant offers 48 hours of odor and wetness protection. And with its NutriumMoisture formula, your underarms will be feeling soft and smooth! What else is there to ask for?

Hope you've learned something new with me on our little beauty discovery! :)
